I want to thank my twin sister, Sherry, my brother, Steve, and my sister, Susan, for helping me with Mom's estate sale. These three special family members have driven from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Susan flew from Germany to help me with Mom's indoor-estate sale.
We have worked for five solid days, sorting, tossing, and reliving memories. Unfortunately, one of my side porches looks like it's ready for a yard sale itself. I keep whining, "Now I HAVE to deal with this crap!" But, it makes no difference. Some things just have to be saved forever and I suppose my house is destined to be the "keeper".
I am showing you this photograph again because this photograph was taken in a one-room school house in Clarksville, Tennessee. Sherry and I are in this photograph. Can you find us? But, something else I noticed when I saw this photograph were the number of first graders. I counted thirty-three of us. I know my educator friends in Fort White are probably gasping for breath and about to pass out at the thought of thirty-three first graders in one class.
No wonder I have issues!
Can you find us yet? Sherry and Merry? Gosh, we were so cute and innocent even though we wore hideous black shoes!
But wait! Why is my thumb bandaged up? Here is the story:
Being a one-room school house, each grade level had to clean out the "outhouses" each month. After talking to my mother about my broken thumb, she said, "Well, you slammed the toilet seat down on your thumb when you were cleaning the outhouse.
"Mother!" I schreeched, "Why in the world would a school system let a six-year old clean out an outhouse?" We were just children!"
Today, however, Mom told me I was just sweeping the outhouse"and I must have banged the toilet seat down on my thumb when I lowered it!
No wonder I have issues!
