Nana That's me. When I first became a grandmother, I thought, "Oh, how horrible. I don't want to be old." But, without my consent, I became a grandmother. Then the name. Grammy. I liked that because Sherry, my twin, is Grammy. However, I was told that Grammy had already been taken by Sam's mom. Erica and Hannah called Mrs. Markham 'Grammy'. So it was suggested I become 'Nana".
I like being called Nana. In childrens' first vocabularly Nana is easiest to say. However, after 3 years of being Nana, Madeline Kate Markham has a new name for me which I absolutely adore...
"My friend." Do you know how deliorous that makes me feel? Recently we had family over and Maddie stood in the doorway. She stood there looking around at all the people. Then she said, "I see my friend"..and she looked straight at me. My heart did a flip. What a wonderful feeling to experience. Since then she has said, "Nana, you're my friend." I absolutely cherish being a grandmother.
I see Maddie tomorrow and I feel so excited as if I'm about to go to the fair and ride a rollercoaster ride. Being a grandmother is a wonderful thing.
