Because of the fires the animals are going haywire. I saw on National News where birds in Miami are flying into storefront windows because they are disoriented from the smoke that has made its way that far south.
Merry Jennifer and Sam saw a new bird in their yard for the first time. Truett thinks it's a thrush.
A black bear and its cub atop a tree in the burning Bugaboo fire were rescued by the Florida Wildlife workers. They showed on TV tonight that the mother bear's paws were burned and she couldn't climb up to her cub. Both were sedated and rescued and are doing fine.
Truett and I saw a grey fox ambling across our driveway. At first we thought it was a coyote.
Now, on a sad note, on Friday afternoon I was backing out of my driveway with Clay to take him to the bank. Thump! Thump! "Mom, what did you run over?" he asked.
"A tree branch," I answered. When we arrived home, the tree branch was actually an armadillo, squashed flatter than a pancake. Now we have the dead animal smell wafting through the smokey air.
Today the winds are gusty which may be a problem for the firefighters. We're all hoping the fires do not leap across I-10 and actually spread into Lake City. The good news is there was no school again today. Will we have to make it up? Bah! Humbug! I know I'll be glad when life returns to normal.
