It is 7:00 p.m. and I'm quite exhausted from keeping up with Madeline. Even though we were headed home from Gainesville with Madeline at 10:30 a.m., we didn't reach home until 11:45. We stopped and bought pool supplies and then Truett decided we'd look at jeeps for a purchase in the near future, maybe. Well, Maddie wasn't too keen about looking at jeeps. "They're too loud," she whined about one million times. Finally, we boarded the Chevy Suburban to head home, at which point Maddie stated, "I like your new car, Nana."
"This is the car we came in," I said.
"It's a nice car because It's not loud, she answered." Enough said about that.
During the afternoon we played with toys and went swimming. I'm so proud of Maddie. She's been going to swim lessons in Gainesville, and for 45 minutes she leapt off the top step of the ladder and belly flopped into the pool. I was almost to the middle of the pool and she would swim like a fish, toward me. Underwater all the way. She would tell me, "Back up" which meant she was testing how far out she could swim toward me. A year ago Maddie clung to me like an octopus. Swim lessons are paying off. Her mommy and daddy will be proud.
Then time for the feeding of my friend's horses. We pulled carrots out of her garden and Maddie said, "They're not good. They're all dirty." It took me a while to convince her that horses eat carrots, dirt and all. Harley, one of the horses gave Maddie a big old carroty kiss right on her forehead.
We also watched ants and ladybugs with the magnifying glass. She said, "Nana you have a lot of animals."
"Yes, I do, Maddie," I answered. At last we've had supper and she's watching "Madeline" videos. She should sleep well tonight thanks to sun, fresh air, and vigorous activities . What a sweetheart our grandaughter is.
