Today I read in the news that Ft. White Elementary School is an "A" school and we met our AYP (annual yearly progress). This is great news for all of us who worked so hard last school year. It is such a relief. Some schools are "A" schools, but do not make sufficient gains in the growth of their lower quartile of students in Reading, Math, Writing, or Science; therefore, they do not make their AYP. Three years of not making AYP and personnel are shifted, principals are moved, students are bussed to other schools, ultimately, monies are withdrawn and a school can be closed down. Hooray for Ft. White Elementary School in reaching Bush's "No Child Left Behind" standards!
I'm also relieved because it is 1:20 p.m. and Sherry and her family are on their way from Kentucky to Florida for a week visit. We'll be kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and playing water games like Marco Polo. Truett and I purchased two supersonic water blasters and two water guns. This should be fun as long as we're in bathing suits. I'll meet Lucas, Lyla and Dave's son, for the first time. I'll also get to introduce Maddie to Hadley who is a year and a half old. Sunday dinner will be prepared for 18 people, but we have the space and room to carry this out. Hooray for summer!
