Yesterday Truett and Boyce and I drove to Cedar Key on a spur of the moment decision...the best kinds of decisions. Boyce wanted to see the gulf and that suited us too. We were looking forward to a dinner of shrimp, oysters, flounder and crab cake, not to mention, heart-of palm salad at The Seabreeze.
While we were waiting for our food, I watched gulf coast cats sleeping under the pilings next to the restaurant, being lulled to sleep by the slapping waves on the dock. Then I noticed a large boat being towed to shore by a smaller boat. I was curious about all the maneuvering it took. I guess those people have seen better days, but it was an interesting thing to watch.
Then after our food was served, I saw a young woman (late 20's) stumbling around on the narrow sidewalk. I kept my eye on her because she seemed to be having a hard time staying upright. Sure enough, she fell off the curb and landed in the street, her head banging twice on the road. Pop! Pop! Merry to the rescue. "Hey, guys, that girl just fell in the road and her head bounced twice on the pavement. I think she's hurt."
Truett shouted for a waitress and within seconds, restaurant personnel were at the lady's aid. I was very concerned because she did not move. Just laid there in the street in front of tourists and motorists approaching. Then her hand clutching her cellphone twitched about the time the restaurant personnel reached her. The restaurant personnel pulled the poor girl up, but she still couldn't stand alone. Obviously, she'd been in the bar all afternoon and probably didn't even know she had a head.
Minutes later two of the lady's friends hoisted her arms over their shoulders and off they stumbled to never-never land. I'm assuming that young woman has seen better days. I know tomorrow she'll question why her head hurts and she'll probably drink another beer or three to ease her pain. Our waitress indicated the girl is the "town drunk." So sad!
I definitely had a better day than the people at Cedar Key. Merry-Jennifer and Sam brought the grandchildren out and I swam with Maddie and watched Oliver's curiosity as he crawled around and played with toys.
