I do believe this is the first Labor Day that Truett and I have had nothing planned and no one to come visit us in years. All morning we were hunkered down just watching movies, waiting for our woman to come clean the floors. Evidentally, someone didn't formulate a solid plan because by 11:00 a.m., she had not shown. "Perfect," I thought. "Who wants to clean on Labor Day anyway? Not me!"
It's also the first Labor Day we have not gone to a Home Depot or Lowes since 2004. I almost expected Truett to say, "I need to go to Home Depot." Well, I sighed a big sigh of relief because it was approaching 11:00 a.m. this morning and no mention was made of a lumber company or hardware store. So I made a suggestion.
"I have a hankering for seafood. Why don't we take Mom to Fanning Springs http://www.fanningspringsflorida.com/ and have a late lunch at The Lighthouse, a fine seafood restaurant. "That's a good plan," Truett said, so I called Mom and off we went. This was one of Mom and Dad's favorite restaurants, before dad passed away.
Sure enough. The seafood was excellent, only we ate way too much for a lunch. After lunch we leisurely drove home observing yellowish tinges of fall in the fields. That excited me because I love the cooler weather fall brings; however, in actuality, fall will probably be late October.
As we drove in our driveway, stuffed and becoming increasingly lethargic and needing an afternoon siesta, Truett put our feelings into one sentence, "I'm hankering for some hunkering down." And that's what we'll we do the rest of this Labor Day, 2007.
