I had to blog about this because today, November 23, 2007 I saw the first flight of the Sandhill Cranes flying south for the winter over our house at 4:30 p.m.
Truett was laying down after all our guests had left and I was sitting on the porches. That's when I heard what I thought were turkeys gobbling. It took me a few seconds to realize, "I know that sound!"
I rushed outside and saw a perfect "V" of Sandhill Cranes heading south. Some usually land and reside on the University of Florida agricultural property like the ones in this photograph.
Of course, I documented this in my weather journal and have spent the last hour trying to download a photograph captured a couple of years ago. I suppose winter is on the way. What a magnificent sound and sight! This is the first flock of the season.
