Mary, Mary quite contrary. How does your garden grow?
We all know that saying. In fact, I heard it so many times during my childhood, teenage years, even adulthood that I wanted to slap the next person who began uttering this little ditty. Of course these people always ended the saying with "With cocker shells and some kind of bells (I'm having a senior moment here) ..and one damn petunia. That's pretty funny don't you think? Well, it's not if you hear it all of your life. Plus, I didn't know what contrary meant for many many years. Then my feelings were hurt.
This little ditty reminded me that I have intentions of starting a wildflower garden. Here is the plot for my flowers.
My dear sweet son dug up the weeds already growing there. This little plot was originally a small garden that my nephew, Quinn, planted years ago. He grew the prettiest, tallest sunflowers I had ever seen.
First, I am not a gardener but I love gardens. I envy people who work in their gardens and have beautiful crops or flowers to show for all their hard work. However, my gardening began and stopped in 1995 when I thrust my fingers down in the cool ,brown dirt and scooped out a two inch milky white fat grub of some kind. At first I thought it was a root, but then it squirmed. "YIKES!" I flung that grub from here to Kingdom Come. (You know where that is, don't you?)
So after all these years I have decided to plant wildflowers. It may already be too late, but I'm doing it anyway. Now I'm on the search for seeds. It has been suggested that I just plant flowering plants; but then I would feel really responsible for keeping the plants alive. If it is a seed I plant, well, who knows, maybe they were bad seeds.
Send your gardening fairies down here to watch over my flowergarden.
Cockle shells...cockle, and silver bells. Now you're going to ask, what is a cockle. You do know what I tell my children, don't you.
