The children at school have been writing about their passions, so in our discussion I've been thinking about my passions. I guess one that I have is collecting things. It all began when I was about 8 years old when I began collecting baseball cards and marbles, stamps and shiny things. All of these collections went into a cigar box, but somehow I suppose I felt like I was too old to keep these old things so I threw them out.
I have a jar of cracker jack prizes, miniature objects, camels, clowns, a bottle of marbles, a tin full of found things like odd buttons, and feathers. Stuff. Lots of stuff. I also collect nature objects for my classroom. I have gopher turtle shells, skulls of various sizes, and sea shells. One time Truett and I found a horse skeleton in our woods and I thought seriously of bleaching each of the bones and wiring it back together. Thank goodness that idea fell through. So my passion is collecting. If I had kept all the toys I've confiscated from children through these forty-four years of teaching, some would be worth big bucks, I'm sure.
Here is a photo of one of my collections.
I won't try to guess what that is.
