I thought I'd begin this post with a photograph I took while whale watching in Juneau.
After viewing whales, sea lions and orcas, our waterjet-powered catamaran drove lazily along the shore line as the captain's guide pointed out areas of interest. "Now if you look closely in that tree to your left you will spot an eagle's nest. Wait! There's the eagle to the right of it." The next thing you know 50 people on the boat rushed to the left to see the mighty eagle. Even though we see eagles in Florida, viewing them in wild Alaska gave me a pure adrenaline rush.
And we also saw beautiful mountains.
And the first of many glaciers...Mendenhall Glacier.
Truett and I purchased the "Best of Juneau" tour package which guaranteed a whale sighting and included an authentic Salmon Bake and we were finally ready for some good food. Picture wild Alaska King salmon grilling over a hot alderwood fire. Chicken and barbecued ribs smoking beside the salmon and all being accompanied by crisp salads and hot, baked potatoes. Yummy.
Then I spied a sled dog, one of the first I will have encountered, and I'll tell you now that I'm saving a whole post about sled dogs.
We were very fortunate it did not rain during our visit to Alaska except for just one day. I liked the umbrella display at the Salmon Bake. That's just plain considerate to have umbrellas for the guests to use. Tomorrow we will head on up to Skagway.
Again, wonderful photos...cute one of you and Jack the sled dog. Can't wait for more.

A salmon bake sounds like fun. I bet their salmon is much better than the stuff I buy frozen at Sam's Club. Hope so, anyway.
I love the photos of the mountains, especially the first picture you posted.
