This afternoon Truett and I took a slow drive to High Springs to do the grocerying. On the way, we detoured down a dirt road subdivision off of US Highway 441/41 south of Oleno State Park.
Well, I was gazing at the clouds since I had my third water color lesson today, when Truett pointed to the right. So I looked to the right and spied an armadillo rooting in the dirt.
Of course I leapt from the car with camera in hand and followed beside it. The armadillo hardly paid me any mind; so after several shots, I was satisfied and returned to the car.
Tonight I decided to do a little research on the armadillo and found a couple of interesting things about this creature. For instance, armadillo shells are used for stringed musical instruments AND armadillo are used in research for the cure of leoprosy.
I thought it interesting that the nine-banded armadillo has quadtruplets every time at birth.
So, there you have it. Armadillo have a higher purpose than being just roadkill.
