Thank you to all my friends who wished me a happy birthday today. So far, it's been a good one; that is if you discount the fact that I thought I was turning 69, when, in fact, I turned 68 today. I was beginning to think of 70 being right around the corner and then realized that 70 is the new 40, so I felt all better.
Mostly my day was spent driving to rehab with Truett, searching for batteries for his scooter, going to Wal*Mart and Sam's Club. On an ordinary day, these chores would have been fine with me; but today it was storming and raining in Gainesville. . . and that's not much fun. Especially, when Truett and I had to kill time in Sam's Club so we wouldn't get drenched or struck by lightning.
Truett suggested we do something simple for dinner since we had had a long day on the road. . . in the rain. . . in the storm. I agreed that was a good idea, so we ate leftovers.
Good old white beans and cornbread with a couple of slices of home grown tomatoes. It tasted better that last night's dinner! I announced that tonight's meal wasn't dinner. Nor was it supper. It was just plain vittles.
Now, during vittles, my mother, aka Ms. Alice, had to tell Truett about being surprised with twins 68 years ago and how our arms were only the size of her thumb. Furthermore, she shared that I had a protruding naval and she related how my father's mother, Granny, taped a silver dollar to it to mash it down. Of course the good Doctor Griffin yanked it off and said, "Get that off that baby!"
As I was cleaning up the kitchen, mom went further into the story about how Sherry and I slept in the top and bottom dresser drawers. "You know, they only weighed 3 pounds and 3-1/2 pounds," she added.
Mom told Truett about Granny trying to collect spider webs to stop Mom's bleeding nose and how she had to feed Sherry and I with an eye dropper because we wouldn't or couldn't nurse.
"Do you think your daddy could ever tell you apart?" mom asked. I thought about it a moment and said, "I doubt it because many times he would say, "Girl, bring me this or bring me that."
Anyway, the night is winding down. Our family will spent this birthday night watching Judge Judy, Two and a Half Men,and the Florida baseball game. GO GATORS!
P.S. My stomach is full from the birthday vittles!
Sounds like a birthday well spent!
