Someone recently said, "You never write about your puppies. You only post pictures of your cats." I thought about that for a while and wondered why I don't write about my puppies. It didn't take long to realize that my puppies are now dogs . . . spoiled dogs. I'm sure you're curious about why they are so spoiled, so I'm laying it out there. . . Ms. Alice, aka, my mama!
But, I shouldn't blame her entirely. No. I, too, have babied these dogs for one year and four months; and now we are all paying for it. This afternoon I had a friend stop by and casually suggested we walk out on the side porch to get a clearer picture of the swimming pool.
WRONG!
The puppies were outside and came bounding in barking and barking and yapping and yapping; so I screeched to my friend, "Stand still while I catch them."
Once again. . .WRONG!
I chased and chased and finally yelled, "Brenda, run in that door while I catch them!"
Folks, I am so bad. My puppies (dogs) are so bad. But, that's not true either. They're not really bad. They're just spoiled rotten and protective. One reason is because we rarely get visitors. Better yet, it could be the German lineage they have. Who knows?
Anyway, my friend got away without any dog nipping her heels; but, nevertheless, I felt terrible. Do you think, "BAD DOG!" meant anything to these two daschunds? Not on your life!
Maggie and Lily recently had their yearly check-ups and we were warned, "They're putting on a little weight. They need to be lean dogs."
HA!
Sometimes I see my mother sneaking table food to these two precious angels and I say, "I hope you're not giving them table food."
"Just a tad," she says.
But, I know the truth.
However,I don't care about that so much. I care about having calm, respectful dogs. Ones that listen when I shout, "STOP!" Not ones that hightail it down the hall toward Ms. Alice's bedroom for safety.
Maggie, the long haired daschund, is terrified of storms, so my mother protects her. Tonight, during the storm, I found Lily standing in her pen all alone, whining. Then it dawned on me. . .a dog is missing. So I marched to mama's room and said, "Give me the dog. Lily is out there all alone and needs comfort too." Mama rustled under her covers and Maggie popped out.
Tomorrow I'm having a domino party and there will be eleven guests here. Aready I'm freaking out. "Do I put the puppies (dogs) in the back room? Do I keep them outside in the heat and humidity?"
I know one thing. If it were up to Truett, he would say, "Shoot them if they keep barking!" But do you want to know a secret? One year and four months ago my husband said, "Let's buy a puppy." And when we went to look at them, he said, "We've got to have two."
So here we are I am. . . with two spoiled puppies dogs.
I'm thinking tomorrow I'll hide two spoiled puppies in Ms. Alice's bedroom.
This household lives by the saying spare the rod and spoil the child!
Unfortunately!
