Truett and I visited Merry Jennifer, Sam and the grandchildren on Sunday for about forty-five minutes. What a breath of fresh air that was!
The air was cool with little to no humidity; and a breeze caused the windchimes to resound in a Zen kind of way.
I can't remember the last time I felt a peacefulness come over me as I watched Madeline write her name in cursive. She's not learning cursive in third grade, but she is infatuated with it. I suspect it might have something to do with her male teacher, whom she adores. The same teacher that introduced his class to Pat Metheny, which caused Madeline to come home and insist that her parents download his music. I certainly am impressed with this new teacher to Alachua County.
Oliver was not to be "out done". Nope! He sprawled out two giant "OLIVER's" on the sidewalk. The best part for me...and that breath of fresh air, was listening to the grandchildren talk about what they were writing. "Hey, Nana! Can you read this?" Don't you know I was in HEAVEN?
We didn't want to impose ourselves on MJ's family on Sunday, knowing the parents were probably tired from the Gator game the night before and that Maddie had been sick on Friday. I really appreciated the "Of course you can come by", by Merry Jennifer. It was such a breath of fresh air for me. I got lost in the family and didn't think about caregiving the rest of the day.
Oliver had gone on a field trip to some pumpkin patch. As Merry Jennifer said when she asked if he had fun, Oliver said, "Write this down!" And he proceded to dictate: I liked sliding. I liked swinging. I got to choose a pumpkin. . . etc." When Merry Jennifer said, "Oliver, tell Nana about your field trip, he raised his finger up and said, "Wait right here." Then he dashed into the house, retrieved the dictated list and I read it out loud. What a breath of fresh air! My grandchildren love learning; and for an educator, I am estatic!
Of course, being an educator, I asked Oliver if he could spell my name. "Nope!" he quickly answered. Then I said, "I'll sound it out for you." In no time at all, I took in that last breath of fresh air!
