Today was the second in-home rehab session with Truett. Lee straightened Truett up right away about how he was getting out of his recliner into his power chair. The walker is the most important part in this process.
"One..two..three.. Truett! One hand on the walker. One hand on the chair. One..two..three..Truett. You can do it." Lee says. By the way, notice the weight on Truett's left ankle. This keeps the swaying down. Even though Truett didn't have a stroke, the symptoms are similar to one.
I think it was near this point that Truett looked at his watch. Not a good sign. "Come on, George! You can do this! Walk back to the wheel chair. You can do this!" And Truett did. But, I knew the end was in sight.
The looking at his watch gave me this clue. I believe when cooler weather comes, Truett won't be so affected by the humidity on the porches and will make greater strides.
Later tonight Truett had to go to the bathroom. "Bring my chair over here," he said.
"Nope! Your walker is in front of you. Do what Lee told you."
And he did. "One...two...three.. UP ... pivot..sit in the power chair and race to the bathroom! CRASH! BANG!
I was proud of Truett today. Two hours before Lee came, Truett was asking, "Can I put my shoes on now?"
I do believe Lee is making a difference, and we may well keep him on after Medicare pays again in the new year.
