This morning I taught writing at Fort White Elementary School. Unfortunately, the narratives I read were what I called Loosey Goosey. I think it was the way the prompt was set up; however I was able to salvage a couple of narratives.
Basically, the prompt was to write about a bad weather day.
Too bad. The stories strayed from here to there. Some children wrote about playing games inside. Oh, well. No bad weather there.
"Keep me on the edge of my seat," I said. " Don't bore me. Don't have five friends in your story . . . have one . . . better yet, have your dog.
It's a dark, dreary day. Hey, I have an idea. You and your dog are at the Ichetucknee Springs and dark clouds roil in. "Come on Toto!" I shout.
But, the next thing you know, Toto falls into the Ichetucknee River and you have to be the hero and rescue him.
Solve it.
Solve it.
Solve it!
Let me hear and feel that storm, and above all, let me see you rescue Toto in that terrible storm!
