This was a letter I wrote to Truett for his 60th birthday in 1995. As you can tell, times were financially tough back then.
Well, eventually times did get better, much better. Unfortunately, 2001 happened and our desire to travel abroad dissipated. Then, on our 35th wedding anniversary in 2006, Merry Jennifer and Sam gave us a 'cruise' for our gift.
Oh, how Truett and I struggled over this gift. In Truett's mind, and mine as well, when we thought of 'cruise', we thought of Bahamas, Hawaii, etc. Countries where our fat bodies would be exposed. Yuck. So we procrastinated and procrastinated.
Daily, I would look at the 'cruise' gift and say, "Truett, we have to make a decision. This was a gift from MJ and Sam. We HAVE to plan a trip SOMEWHERE! If we don't make a decision, I'm giving this gift back to Merry Jennifer and Sam!" After all, a full year had passed before we could make a decision.
Then my dear, sweet husband said, "Let's research Alaska". We did, booked our cruise, and that became the best trip we had ever taken.
Thank you, Truett, for making the cruise decision and allowing me to see all of our United States.
I love you. Always did and always will.
