Today Merry Jennifer, Sam, Maddie and Oliver brought me lunch from Sonny's. It felt good to eat again. But one of the best parts of today that brought me Christmas joy was walking outside with my grandchildren. "Nana!" Oliver shouted after he and Maddie had been exploring the yard. "We found a long chain in the yard and it was just laying there random in the driveway. We pulled it up and put it in the grass. Do you want to see it?"
"Certainly," I answered. "Let me get my jacket and camera." Sure enough. A five foot chain with hooks on both ends was laid out in the grass. "Well, good grief!" I exclaimed. I wonder how this got here!" Then I reflected on the screw that flattened my tire a month ago. So I told the kids to hang the chain on the playhouse steps in case someone lost it.
"Hey, guys. I want to take a picture of you running down the hill like you did several years ago." So we wandered around toward the hill on the West side of our property. Unfortunately, the sun was impeding good photographs; but up they ran . . . up the hill.
And down they ran. I can't tell you how long it has been since I've wandered my property, but it has been several years. It felt so good to see my grandchhildren enjoying my property.
Meanwhile, Merry Jennifer and Sam cleaned up the kitchen while I enjoyed my grandchildren. Thank you so much.
On the way down the hill, Oliver cried, "Nana! I have a sticker in my foot!" So I checked it out. "Oliver, that's a sandspur. Here. Let me pull it out." So I did. But then the sandspur stuck in my finger. "Maddie, come pull this out!" So she did. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! I was reminded of my niece who ran through my yard when she was young. First, she stepped in fire ants, then in sandspurs, then in stinging nettles. She came to the house crying, "Florida hurts!"
Even though it's not Christmas yet, my heart was filled with Christmas joy today just seeing my family and especially walking the yard with my grandchildren.
